Restoration of my 1965 Lister Autotruck

Picture taken at Buckfastleigh Railway Station,  just the right place for it to be as this Autotruck has come from Waterloo Station and carried the Royal Mail

Buckfastleigh Rally is a very good day out for all the family where the children can enjoy jumping through the steam and riding the trains

Abandon and neglected in a junk yard !  I came across an old 1965 Lister

which I purchased for a song. It was in need of lots of TLC

In the mean time I was out in my wife’s car and found  a four wheeled

dirty old flat trailer, which I promptly put in her car and phoned her on

the way to tell her I had a toy on board. So when I got home much to

her disgust on seeing it, presenter her with it.  I ripped off the old rotten

flatbed and started to play.

We have recently found out after a lot of searching around that this Lister Autotruck was used at Waterloo Station pulling the mail trailers loaded with Royal Mail from train to train and road haulage machines.

As you can see there are two oil drums on the back and the two blue seats on the front are from my old ambulance which was scraped some time ago.  By now you can probably guess I am trying to make a water carrier to assist the stationary engines with their much needed water.

This is known as a Lister Autotruck built in Dursley, UK.  which are no longer manufactured since 1973 to my knowledge.  This Lister is an LD1 7982  ~ hp 3.50 ~  rpm 1800   Also I am told that these machines were used for timber merchants, dock yards, markets, brick manufacturers and lots more.  The pulling capacity is about 2 ton and a speed of 20 mph and can be licensed for road use.  So you see it can be economical as it is a diesel.

Now in 2008 it has been fully restored and I will be seen at the summer rallies chugging around on her
